We’re big fans of Earth Day at YouSendIt. As part of our commitment to preserving the environment we announced today the second annual YouSendIt Earth Day Challenge. We’re encouraging users to pledge their support for the environment by using YouSendIt to transfer information instead of printing out pages or burning files to a CD or DVD.
In 2009, YouSendIt users pledged to save more than 12 million pieces of paper, 1,400 trees and more than 40,000 gallons of water that would have gone into the production of paper. The pledges resulted in more than 419,000 shipments not being sent and nearly 35 million fewer miles driven to deliver the shipments. YouSendIt hopes to encourage even more environmentally friendly practices during the 2010 challenge and exceed last year’s pledges. Users can simply visit the Earth Day Challenge Web site and pledge to reduce the number of pages they will print, shipments they will send by courier, and CDs and DVDs they will burn. A YouSendIt calculator will display:
- The number of trees saved
- The carbon emissions saved
- The number of BTUs of energy saved
- The number of gallons of fresh water that will not be consumed during paper production
- The dollar savings they earn by cutting out shipping and printing costs
Each pledge enters users in the challenge and qualifies them for the opportunity to win one of these prizes: an iPad, solar charger or gift cards from Amazon. Users who share the Earth Day Challenge information through social media channels will be entered into a random drawing to win prizes- check out out YouSendIt Facebook and Twitter pages for more information. The winner will receive an iPad.
Winners will be announced on May 3. For more information, please visit the Earth Day Challenge website: http://bit.ly/2010Earth.
